PDO Pomodoro del Piennolo

Pomorodo del Piennolo DOP is one of the most typical and ancient products of Campania's agriculture. The volcanic soil and the generous Campanian sun contribute to its unique taste. Pomodorino del Piennolo del Vesuvio is still grown using traditional methods. The tomatoes, weighing about 25-30 grams, are round with a small point at the bottom. The skin is leathery and the flesh, firm and compact, has a characteristic sweet taste with an acid aftertaste due to the particular concentration of sugars and mineral salts.

The Pomodoro del Piennolo DOP takes its name from the Campanian term "piennoli", i.e. pendulums: whole bunches harvested between July and August, tied in a circle on hemp twine to form a single large bunch, stored hanging in a dry and ventilated place.
