The Value of Organic: from Field to Wheel

Organic is not a passing trend, but a conscious and responsible choice. It means respecting natural cycles, fostering biodiversity, ensuring animal welfare, and bringing authentic, genuine products to the table. It is a philosophy that begins in the soil and reaches the plate, involving every stage of the production chain.

Ferrari Bio embraced this path as early as 1978, when the word “organic” was not yet widely known and many still considered it a niche sector. The Ferrari family, however, saw in organic farming an ethical and forward-looking way forward—one that could not only deliver healthier products but also protect the land and enhance the unique natural heritage of the Reggio Emilia hills. Since then, every decision made on the farm has been guided by a clear principle: true quality is born from respect for nature.

Animal Welfare as the Starting Point

At the heart of the project is dairy farming. The cows at Ferrari Bio feed exclusively on fodder grown without pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers. This approach guarantees a healthy, natural diet that directly impacts the quality of the milk—rich, pure, and genuine.

Animal management also reflects the philosophy of organic farming: close attention to welfare, adequate space, and care based on homeopathic and phytotherapeutic methods, which minimize the use of antibiotics. This results in healthier, happier animals and a more wholesome product.

From Milk to Organic Parmigiano Reggiano

For Ferrari Bio, organic principles extend far beyond animal feed—they apply to the entire production chain. The transformation of milk into Parmigiano Reggiano follows the strict regulations of the Consortium, with no added preservatives or chemical additives. What makes the difference is the raw material itself: pure, natural, and uncontaminated.

From this process comes Organic Parmigiano Reggiano DOP, which combines the tradition of the “king of cheeses” with the guarantees of organic farming. Its different aging stages each tell a unique story:

15/18 months: fresh and delicate, with sweet notes and a soft, elastic texture.

22/24 months: balanced and versatile, crumbly and aromatic, perfect for cooking or enjoying on its own.

Over 30 months: intense and complex, with aromas of dried fruit and spices, ideal for refined pairings.

Supporting organic farming also means reducing environmental impact. Cultivation methods respect soil fertility, promote biodiversity, and help preserve natural resources. It is a choice that looks to the future: leaving behind healthier, more fertile land for the next generations.

For Ferrari Bio, organic is a pact with both nature and people. Every wheel of Parmigiano tells a story of consistency and care, made up of small daily actions that together hold great value: keeping a centuries-old tradition alive in a sustainable way.
